Established May 2004, The Lynne Bedini Lewis Scholarship seeks to recognize the academic pursuits of a single mother trying to make a better life for herself and her children through education. Established by her parents, Ben and Peg Bedini, this scholarship is named for Lynne Bedini Lewis as recognition for her commitment and dedication to the Junior Woman's Club of Raleigh and her passion for education.
The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a working, single mother returning to school to further her education. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual(s) based on the following criteria:
- Financial Need: Verified by figures from application and tax records.
- Character: Based on a written recommendation and personal interview.
- Scholastic Record: Based on school records
- Potential: Based on personal letter and personal interview.
Each applicant shall submit the following information to the Endowment Committee:
- A completed application form
- High School or higher education transcripts and/or GED, ABE or SAT scores.
- One letter of reference from a teacher, counselor or business associate.
- A one-page statement from the applicant explaining the applicant's desire to return to school, her educational goals and the need for financial assistance.
